Iranian ‘A Hero’ en route to Belgrade festival

The Belgrade Int’l Film Festival in Serbia is to host Iranian movie ‘A Hero’.

The 50th edition of the Belgrade International Film Festival in Serbia has been set to play host to Iranian movie ‘A Hero’.

Directed by two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi the movie will have eight screenings at the festival.

‘A Hero’ is about Rahim, a working-class man separated from his first wife, with whom he has a stuttering young son, who has spent three years incarcerated for defaulting on a debt, but is given leave for two days, during which he tries to turn around his fortunes, but quickly finds himself caught in a web of white lies.

The movie has toured a wide range of the most prominent global galas, including the Sydney Film Festival in Australia, the Hamptons International Film Festival in the US, the Mostra-Sao Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil, the Montclair Film Festival in the US, and the Film Festival Cologne in Germany, the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the Adana Golden Boll International Film Festival in Turkey, the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, and the Cannes Film Festival in France, where it won the Grand Prix.

The National Board of Review in the US named ‘A Hero’ the Best Foreign Language Film and the movie also won the Best Original Screenplay.

The Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia gave the achievement in directing prize to Farhadi for the movie.

Famous cineastes such as Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, and Sarina Farhadi are on the cast list of ‘A Hero’.

The renowned cinematic magazine Variety predicted ‘A Hero’ as a potential movie to win the award for the best film at the Oscars 2022.

It was also shortlisted for the Best Picture – Non-English Language category at the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Belgrade film festival is celebrating its 50th edition with the motto presented at the visual solution of this year’s festival, which reads “New Brave World”, a wordplay in relation to the slogan of the first edition held in 1971 which read “Brave New World”.

This year’s festival will showcase a large number of films from around the world by celebrated filmmakers, including Pedro Almodovar, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dario Argento, Paul Schrader, Ildiko Enyedi, Justin Kurzel, Paolo Genovese, Paul Thomas Anderson and Gaspar Noe.

The 2022 edition of the event will take place in the Serbian capital on February 25-March 6.
